According to police, a bobcat broke into a residence in Vermont on Friday morning and assaulted a man before becoming trapped in the bathroom.
Windsor Police Chief Jennifer Frank stated, “We received a call from a resident that they had what they believed was a bobcat trapped inside of the bathroom.”
During a fight with the animal, an elderly man was bruised, but he managed to trap it in the bathroom and close the door.
The patient was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The bobcat was euthanized by Vermont Fish and Wildlife officials for being tested for rabies and other infections.
“This is a very rare and unusual situation,” Chief Frank stated. “In fact, this is the first time in my career that I’ve seen it gain admission into someone’s house and then make contact with a human. It just so happened that the conditions were unusual. There were also people cutting trees down next door, which may have had an affect on its habitat as well.”
